This dark brown & very thin shelled small fruit is generally sold in bunches on unpicked branch shoots . The flesh is pinkish-white , sweet and juicy , covering a hard stone in the centre. It is grown extensively in the north of Thailand , particularly in the Chiang Mai area. The shell is easily cracked by a squeeze between thumb and forefinger. Longons can be enjoyed fresh or as a dessert served either with syrup or sticky rice, Many Thais believe the fruit helps energise the body and relieve fatigue. Varieties include the following:Beo-keo is globular in shape with the top slightly distorted. It is brownish green in colour with white flesh , sweet and scented in taste. Daw is shaped like a flattened sphere with a brown skin. Its flesh is white and sweet tasting. See-chohmpoo is also globular in shape but with a reddish brown skin, and pink sweet and scented flesh,
