This is the Thai version of a grapefruit ; similar in appearance to the grapefruit , though slightly larger and much sweeter. The succulent flesh varies from being pale yellow to orange , or even red in colour , depending on the variety. The pomelo flesh is divided into 10 to 15 segments of juice-filled sac which are usually sweet , tangy and juicy. A number of varieties are grown in Thailand: Kao-hawm is globular-shaped and a yellowish green in colour . The flesh is white, sweet and scented. Kao-nahm-peung is more pear-shaped than global. The flesh is a yellowish white and sweet tasting. Kao-paen is more of a flattened globe shape but also yellowish green in colour . The flesh is white , sweet and very slightly sour. Kao-puang is pear-shaped , with a pronounced basal topknot and a yellowish green in colour the flesh is yellowish white, sweet and very slightly sour
Kao-tawng-dee is globular-shaped and a dark green colour with a smoother skin. The flesh is pink coloured, and sweet and juicy. Pomelos are the largest of all citrus fruits and make a pleasant change from the slightly sour taste of the usual grapefruit !,
