Although the Pineapple is not native to Thailand it has been grown in Thailand for several centuries , particularly in the sandy soils along the coasts. It tends to be sweeter and juicier than those grown in other countries. The varieties however vary from region to region in Thailand with the southern variety being smaller though highly acclaimed as “tastier”, not too juicy, the flesh being slightly paler, crisper and where the core can even be eaten. Thailand is one of the world’s leading exporters of pineapples, particularly those grown in Petchburi and Prachuab Khiri Khan provinces in the West, and in Chonburi and Rayong provinces in the East. The Pineapple is not only eaten fresh but the juice is extracted for an extremely pleasant fruit drink or the chopped fruit is often an ingredient of cooked dishes such as a spicy soup called kaeng khua sapparot and phat sapparot, which is fried pineapple with prawns, chillies, and onions.,
